Pay with Your Wrist: GCash and Huawei Launch Watch Pay

Your new wallet is a watch. Don't forget to charge it.

In today’s fast-paced world, Filipinos are always seeking faster payment methods. To answer this need, GCash continues to innovate by simplifying everyday transactions. In a groundbreaking partnership with Huawei, they are introducing GCash Watch Pay. This is the first-ever wearable payment innovation in the Philippines.

This new feature allows users to make secure, hands-free payments directly from their wrist. Ultimately, it offers a truly seamless way to pay without ever reaching for your phone or wallet.

How Does Watch Pay Work?

The process is designed for simplicity and speed. First, users link their GCash account to a compatible Huawei smartwatch. Then, they can generate a unique QR code directly on the watch’s screen.

GCash Watch Pay eliminates the need to pull out a phone or wallet during purchases,” said Ren-Ren Reyes, president and CEO of G-Xchange, Inc.

Merchants can then scan this QR code using any scanning point-of-sale (POS) system. This action completes the transaction instantly and securely. Therefore, GCash and Huawei designed this feature for people who are always on the move. It’s useful during a workout or commute when grabbing your phone isn’t convenient.

A Partnership for Convenience and Security

This partnership with Huawei Philippines reinforces GCash’s commitment to enhancing digital payment convenience. Furthermore, the two companies recently highlighted their collaboration at the Huawei Developer Conference in Dongguan, China. There, they announced that 7 million Huawei Smartwatch users in the Philippines can now access QR payments.

By bringing payments to a wearable device, GCash and Huawei are responding to the growing need for simple and secure payment options.

How to Get Started

The new GCash Watch Pay feature is currently available for compatible Huawei smartwatches. It works with select merchants who use “Business Scan Consumer” technology for QR payments. Indeed, this marks an important step in expanding wearable payment solutions in the country.
